Traditionis Custodes Effect: Dominican Joins SSPX
Father Wojciech Gołaski, 57, a Polish Dominican for 35 and priest for 28 years, has joined the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX). 16 years ago, he learned to celebrate the Dominican Rite and understood that “this is what Holy Mass is.” In an open letter (Rorate-caeli.blogspot.com, November 10), Gołaski confesses that the Original Rite "is the opposite of a stereotype: instead of formalism, free expression of the soul before God; instead of frigidity, the fervour of divine cult; instead of distance, closeness; instead of strangeness, intimacy; instead of rigidity, security.” Gołaski felt "relief" in his liturgical discovery but then came Francis' Traditionis custodes which claimed out of the blue that the rite of all ages suddenly "ceased" to be the lex orandi of the Church while, in reality, "the traditional liturgy expresses the lex orandi of the Roman Rite by every gesture and every sentence.” Francis’ TC “will fail,” Gołaski knows. Despite holding the papal authority in high esteem, he was unable to reconcile two mutually exclusive facts: one opening the liturgical treasure, and the other claiming that this treasure had "expired.” Accepting this contradiction would have destroyed his intellectual life, and, as a consequence, his spiritual life, Gołaski writes.
